Annual Forum focuses on applying anti-oppression & equity frameworks to strengthen services that support im/migrants
The annual North Shore Service Provider’s Forum was hosted on February 14, 2023, by the North Shore Immigrant Inclusion Partnership, a project of Impact North Shore. The focus of this year’s Forum was on Equity at the Center: Re-imagining Community Services and Im/migrant Inclusion.
The event was attended by over 50 community service providers and NSIIP partners involved in program planning and decision-making. Participants also included front-line staff and volunteers working directly with newcomers and im/migrants.
Keynote speakers at the event included: Lydia Luk, Staff Support Lead / Community Developer at PeerNet BC; Marc Larrivee and Utsav Thakur, Interim Co-Directors of Services at Impact North Shore; and Seogae Yoo, Settlement and Family Programs Manager at Impact North Shore.
Participants learned about equity frameworks, how to apply anti-oppressive lenses to lead organizational change, and strategies & tools for building more culturally responsive services that support newcomers’ experiences of belonging. Key data about emerging im/migrant service trends on the North Shore was also presented – this information shaped the breakout room discussions around best practices and barriers/challenges to shifting systems.
