NSIIP hosted a Pathways to Participation Forum in February 2021.
This event was intended for North Shore immigrants interested in learning more about participating in community life as well as for current Board, Council, or Committee members curious about how to increase racial and cultural diversity on their teams.
Kulvir Mann, North Vancouver School District trustee moderated the event and three inspiring panelists (Ashraf Amlani, Sara Mohammadkhani, and Felicia Zhu) reflected on their experiences as immigrants in community leadership roles on the North Shore! In small breakout groups, participants also had a chance to discuss their own experiences and share strategies for overcoming barriers to participation, build new networks, and take steps toward exciting leadership opportunities.
The event was organized by members of the NSIIP Immigrant Advisory Council and the NSIIP Civic Engagement working group – including representatives from North Shore Community Resources, the District of West Vancouver, the City of North Vancouver, North Vancouver Museum and Archives (MONOVA), the West Vancouver Memorial Library and the North Vancouver City Library.
